Vernon Midwifery is a trusted and established midwifery practice located in Vernon, British Columbia. Led by Registered Midwife Carrie Sizer, the clinic provides comprehensive, client-centered care through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Vernon Midwifery is proud to have been the first free-standing midwifery clinic in the North Okanagan area.
Our Beginnings
Originally founded by Sylvia Nicholson, Vernon Midwifery has supported local families for decades. Carrie joined the practice after completing the Internationally Educated Midwifery Bridging Program (IEMBP) and took over as the primary midwife following Sylvia’s retirement. In 2019, she also founded The Health Nest, a multidisciplinary family wellness clinic where Vernon Midwifery is based today.
Carrie Sizer
Carrie brings over 25 years of experience in healthcare, beginning as a Registered Nurse in emergency care before graduating with a BA (Hons) in Midwifery from the University of York in 1998. She has attended births in both hospital and home settings, including water births, and believes strongly in respectful, evidence-based care that supports each family’s unique preferences.
The Health Nest
Vernon Midwifery is located inside The Health Nest clinic in Vernon, BC. Our clinic is on the second floor, and the building does not have an elevator. Free parking is available in the surface lot behind the building. Please park only in spaces marked for clients of The Health Nest. Street parking is also available.

Please note: Availability is limited each month, and we are currently offering hospital births only. Home birth services are not available at this time.
MSP Coverage
Midwifery care in British Columbia is fully covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) for eligible residents. We offer full midwifery care including prenatal visits, hospital birth support, and postpartum care. Postpartum care is also available for families who gave birth with a physician or another provider. For clients without MSP coverage, private care options are available.
