Registered Nurse & British-Trained Midwife
Carrie’s journey into midwifery began after working as a Registered Nurse in emergency care. Inspired by a friend’s suggestion, she pursued midwifery training in the UK and graduated in 1998 with a BA (Hons) in Midwifery from the University of York. From the moment she began her midwifery studies, she knew she had found her calling.
Joining Vernon Midwifery
Over the years, Carrie has provided care in both hospital and community settings across the UK and Canada, including attending home births and water births. In 2016, she moved to British Columbia and completed the Internationally Educated Midwifery Bridging Program (IEMBP) through the University of British Columbia. She then joined Vernon Midwifery under the mentorship of its founder, Sylvia Nicholson, eventually taking over as the lead midwife after Sylvia’s retirement.

Opening The Health Nest
In 2019, Carrie opened The Health Nest to bring together a team of practitioners supporting families through all stages of life. Her work is grounded in respectful, evidence-based care that centers each client’s values, preferences, and lived experience.

Care Philosophy
Pregnancy and birth are natural, transformative events
Every person deserves care that reflects their values and goals
Midwifery care should be personal, supportive, and empowering

Beyond the Clinic
Beyond her clinical work, Carrie has also served as a Health and Social Care Tutor, Nutrition Advisor, and clinic manager. She is an active volunteer in the local community and has been involved with Vernon Girl Guides for many years.
