The early weeks after birth, often called the fourth trimester, are a time of deep transition. At Vernon Midwifery, Carrie Sizer offers warm, professional postpartum care to help you feel supported, confident, and cared for as you recover and adjust to life with your new baby.

Whether you gave birth with a midwife, a doctor, or another provider, postpartum care is available to help meet your needs.

What postpartum care includes

Carrie provides personalized care in the six weeks following birth, including:

  • Scheduled visits in your home, at the clinic, or in hospital
  • Monitoring your physical recovery and overall wellness
  • Support with infant feeding (breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, or formula)
  • Newborn health checks and weight monitoring
  • Emotional wellness screening and mental health support
  • Education on infant care, sleep, and parenting
  • On-call support for urgent postpartum concerns

Care is flexible and adapted to your family’s needs and preferences. Carrie works with you to make sure you feel informed and empowered during this important time.

Who can access postpartum care?

Postpartum care is available for:

  • Clients who received full prenatal and birth care through Vernon Midwifery (postpartum is included)
  • Clients who gave birth with a doctor or another provider but would like postpartum support
  • Families with or without BC MSP coverage (private care available)

MSP and private care

Postpartum care is fully covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) for eligible residents of British Columbia—even if you did not receive midwifery care during pregnancy or birth. For those without MSP, private care options are available.
